In 2021, the Chinese Communist Party or CCP celebrated its centenary. This milestone marked the end of one, and the beginning of another even more challenging journey.

This second leg could see China emerge as not only the world’s largest but also one of its wealthiest nations. At completion, China may join the ranks of the world's advanced industrialised nations.

Democracy alone can deliver the long-term economic, social and political stability that is the defining mark of advanced economies.  Democracy must therefore be requirement of any economy, developed or developing, that by virtue of its size and global integration is deemed systemically important.
